How to install addons for WoW Classic

As tens of thousands of players jump into World of Warcraft Classic, one of the first priorities for many players will be to customize the game to their liking with addons.

Addons have always been a part of WoW, becoming increasingly common over the years since the game’s release, and allow players to do everything from customizing their UI and calculating their DPS to using complicated systems for maximizing their trading efficiency on the auction house.

While long-time World of Warcraft players will undoubtedly be familiar with the process of installing addons, for those who are trying out WoW for the first time with Classic, or are returning to the game after an extended absence, it might not be so obvious.

Using the Twitch app

Twitch might primarily be a broadcasting platform, but it does offer some other services thanks to the company’s acquisition of Curse, and for World of Warcraft players that means having access to a one-stop shop for all your addon needs.

Gone are the days of having to find add-ons and mess around with folders yourself. In modern World of Warcraft, players can simply use the Twitch app to install and manage add-ons, and this is a convenience that extends to Classic.

To get add-ons through Twitch, you’ll first need to install the Twitch client if you haven’t already, which can be done via the Twitch website.

Once you have the app installed, you’ll need to navigate to the mods tab and select World of Warcraft, which will let you search for specific wow addons, as well as browsing the most popular or newest releases.

To access addons for WoW Classic, you’ll need to select the Classic folder from the drop-down menu on the top right-hand side, which by default will be set to the “retail” version of the game.
